My Friends...

Most of the time, I hang out with the group pictured below. We generally meet at The Cotton Bottom (our home planet) for a beer before we go riding. They serve a great garlic buger and the beer is cheap. Terri (one of our merry band) also works there. After plotting the festivities, we repair to our bikes and hit the road.

The MDA Wendover Run

This is my favorite ride of the year, Its always great to do something you love and help kids at the same time. I generally ask everybody I know or work with for donations, add my little bit, and then its off to Wendover to celebrate. This is always a popular ride and so over the past several years we've raised alot of money for the kids. One of the locals with a sidecar on his bike gets to take the poster child with him on the ride. Its really an impressive sight, this is the largest ride of the year in these parts. There are thousands of bikes lining both sides State Street as we wait to leave. Then it happens, all the bikes start... The rumble rattles windows in the surrounding buildings. When we all get going, there is a line of bikes at least a mile long and four bikes wide just rumblin down the road. We get an escort to the freeway by the cops that have to work, and the ones that don't join us for the ride. Then its just a quick 120 mile ride to Wendover. There is a party in the parking lot of the casino. Harley of Salt Lake and Rock 99 usually sponsor the event, so there is music, beer, munchies, and prizes. I never win, but I always have a great time.

The Trappers Loop Run

Several times a year we make take a run up Trappers Loop to Huntsville, we head for The Shooting Star Saloon. This is the oldest bar in Utah and is hallmarked by dollar bills stapled to the ceiling, each bill is autographed by the person who left it. This is also the home of the infamous Star Burger. It started off as a nice day, however one of those fast moving ugly clouds caught us just north of Pineview Reservoir. Gerald had spotted this old building with a wooden porch back a couple of miles so we flipped around and headed for cover. After standing around on the porch a while, drinking beer and waiting for the clouds to pass, the owner of the place comes out and invites us to take a look around. It's really cool, it is setup like an old general store and it has alot of neat old stuff in it. The owner was still remodling the inside, he was building an old fashion soda fountain. I guess thats why he was there on a Sunday afternoon. Anyway, we looked around a while, drank a couple more beers, and discussed weighty matters with the owner. And the next thing we knew, the rain had stopped and the sun was out. So we dried off our bikes and headed down the road...

[Photos 3 & 4] We're all standing around the beach at Pineview Reservoir talking about the fast moving ugly cloud coming over the mountains to the south. [Photos 5, 6, & 7] We're trying to stay dry at the antique store, while we wait for the storm to pass. In the last shot Gerald is taking to the owner of the store.

The Eureka Run

One of my favorite highways is the stretch of road that runs behind Utah Lake. And what better place to go (and ride this road) than Eureka.
